Key Features
Below is a summary of typical / standout features across the DURACAP line (depending on the model):
| Feature | Description / Details |
|---|
| Shell / Structure | Weldless aluminum panels, urethane-coated for protection, with built-in extruded bows for rigidity. |
| Weight & Removability | Many models weigh ~ 80-130 lbs (depending on size / options) and can be removed in about 10 minutes by two people. |
| Seals / Weather Protection | Water-shedding design, interlocking hinge, weather-tight seals all around to keep out rain, dust, debris. |
| Mounting / Installation | Uses aluminum stake pocket inserts (i.e. drill-free for many trucks). Trucks without stake pockets may require clamps or drilling. |
| Locking / Security | Dual internal locking system. Some models allow latch release from outside via pull cords, with about ½ inch of solid engagement. |
| Windows / Visibility / Ventilation | Some models include side sliding tempered-glass windows with built-in screens (Explore), rear plexiglass windows, and a two-way roof vent for airflow / positive-pressure dust control. |
| Cab-to-Shell Access / Pass-Through | Many models include a front pass-through opening so you can access bed from the cab side, sealed with gaskets. |
| Roof Rack Ready | The shell is prepped for adding cross bars / racks (DURACAP Truck Topper Rack) with no drilling (in many cases), and a static/dynamic load rating when used properly. |
| Load / Rack Capacity | With the proper rack, DURACAP can support up to ~1,000 lb static load, 500 lb dynamic, and 400 lb off-road dynamic (evenly distributed). |
Ideal Use / Applications
The DURACAP line is suitable for users who want:
Secure protection for cargo from weather, theft, and road debris, better than soft covers.
All-weather, all-season use, especially in regions with rain, snow, dust, etc.
Flexibility: access from rear, side windows (depending on model), ventilation, cab-to-shell access.
Overlanding / outdoor gear transport where you may mount roof racks or carry gear on top (so long as you don’t exceed weight limits).
Work applications: trades, contractors, delivery, etc., where a sturdy, lockable enclosure is desired.
Occasional removal / reinstallation: e.g. for hauling over-height loads; the ~10 min remove time is a benefit.
Installation Notes & Tips
When installing a DURACAP topper, here are important considerations:
Read Instructions / Watch Videos
Always review the manufacturer’s install manual and any model-specific special instructions.
Special Instructions by Truck Model
Some truck models require special insert instructions or clamp / bolt-on adaptations. Agri-Cover lists “Special Instructions” per make/model (Chevy/GMC, Ford, Jeep, Ram, etc.).
Clean the Truck Bed / Rails
Before placing the cap, remove debris or dirt from the bed rails to ensure good sealing and fit.
Clamp / Stake Pocket Inserts
For trucks with stake pockets, the aluminum stake-pocket inserts allow a drill-free mounting. If your truck lacks stake pockets, you may need clamps or drilling.
Align Carefully
Proper alignment is critical so seals engage properly, the cap sits square, and the doors/windows operate smoothly. Use alignment plates (provided) as per instructions.
Torque / Tightening
Use appropriate torque settings for bolts/clamps (as per the manual). Avoid overtightening, which can distort parts or damage seals.
Seal / Weatherstripping
Ensure that all gaskets, seals, and weatherstripping are installed correctly, clean, and flush. Mis-sealed edges are common causes of leaks or wind noise.
Accessory Integration
If installing a DURACAP Truck Topper Rack, follow its separate install instructions. The rack is designed to install without drilling into the shell (using existing holes), but ensure you adhere to load limits and mounting guidelines.
Removal / Reinstallation
The shell is designed to be removable in about 10 minutes (for many models). Keep hardware and alignment plates safe so you can reinstall properly.
Check After Initial Use
After initial few drives, check all clamps/bolts for any loosening, and inspect seals to confirm no leaks.
Care & Maintenance
To keep a DURACAP in good condition over years, follow these maintenance tips:
Regular Cleaning
Wash the shell surface (aluminum + urethane coating) with mild soap, water, and a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid harsh abrasives or strong solvents that may damage the finish.
Inspect Seals & Weatherstripping
Periodically check all gaskets, seals, and weatherstripping for wear, cracking, deformation, or detachment. Replace any compromised seals.
Lubricate Moving Parts
Hinges, gas struts, latches, sliding window tracks — these should be periodically cleaned and lightly lubricated (silicone or appropriate lubricant) to reduce friction and prevent binding.
Tighten Hardware
Check clamps, bolts, and fasteners periodically for tightness, especially after initial use and seasonal changes (expansion/contraction).
Check for Leaks / Interior Inspection
After heavy rain or pressure wash, check the interior of the cap for wet spots and trace them to the seals; reseal as needed.
Protect Finish
If the urethane coating shows wear, you may use recommended products (clear coat, touch-up) per Agri-Cover or auto paint guidelines (check with Agri-Cover first). Avoid contact with sharp objects that scratch the shell.
Storage / Off Season
If removing the cap for extended periods, store it in a safe place (protected from damage, on padded supports) and cover it or keep it indoor if possible.
Cargo Load Management
When using a roof rack on the shell, make sure to evenly distribute loads, don’t exceed weight limits, and secure the cargo properly. Exceeding limits can cause damage or undue stress on the shell.
Avoid Over-pressure Cleaning / High-Pressure Sprays
Use caution with pressure washers, especially at edges/seals. Don’t spray at angles forcing water under gaskets.
Avoid Unauthorized Modifications
Drilling extra holes or modifying shell structure can cause leaks, weaken integrity, or void warranty.
